The scary part of my day is now over. I wrote the midterm for which I was least prepared, and I think I have a good chance of passing w/ lenient marking. I have one last midterm next Monday, and then I guess you could say I'm out of the thick of it.

Regarding jobs, Company A has offered me a position; I have yet to hear back from Company B; and I have a phone interview w/ Company C this evening. This job search is a course in itself . . .

Damn that Millionaire show! It seems to be on every night, and if I catch even a glimpse of it, I'm hooked! I can't seem to escape, I'm compelled to watch and see how stupid the questions are and how clever the contestants are, or vice versa. TV can be a bad thing . . .

While procrastinating from studying, I've added a brief page on using Linux in place of Windows.

Had an interview w/ Company B today (we'll call the Calgary employer Company A). If I left the right impression w/ them, I'll be called back for a second interview. My thoughts at this point are that it could go either way . . .

Well, it's really nice to be sitting here at school at 08h30 when I could have slept in an extra hour. Mr. To-the-book himself cancelled this morning's class, after a couple of people complained they had a midterm today, and he considered his own busy day. That's really nice considering when I woke up I so very much wanted to sleep in, but didn't, b/c I'd missed last week's early classes. I was rushed, and thus didn't make lunch either. As far as I see it, he owes me an hour of time, and lunch. If I had a midterm, and I wanted to study, I wouldn't have gone to class and hoped for it to be cancelled, I simply would have skipped. Oh the genius that surrounds me.

A word of caution to anyone who decides to use blogger, make sure to save your entries to the clipboard (or similar) before posting, b/c I find when posting from a Solaris machine, they just disappear, and it requires several attempts.

The trip to Calgary was super. Friday's flight arrived late, so I missed the entirety of the evening's "meet and greet" festivities. This left me uncertain of what I was walking into on Saturday, but it turned out great! I had 2.5 interviews, which I believe went well. I met a lot of friendly and enthusiastic people, and left with very positive impressions. The afternoon went longer than expected, so I postponed my flight until Sunday. W/ my evening now free, I was able to hang out w/ dEb, and just relax as opposed to rushing off to the airport.

The flight in was horrible. I was exhausted to begin w/, and this made for a very restless 4.5 hours. Being well rested for Sunday, the 3.5 hour return run was much more enjoyable. Both there and back, I was seated beside businessmen who enjoyed Mott's Spicy Clamato juice . . . Hmmmm . . .

I arrived home early Sunday evening, and now here I sit on Monday morning, grappling w/ the week to come: prep for three midterms early next week, and possibly also an essay! So much for things slowing down . . .

Yesterday was my busiest day yet, and there's no stopping there. Today I have a midterm, and then I'm off to Calgary for a career fair. I'll be back by Saturday night, when I can finally relax the pace.

I wish I had more games on itsyourturn.com; so if you're reading this, I urge you to go there and set up a user id, then invite deep_boots to a game of checkers, reversi, pente, connect4, or whathaveyou.

I've been reading the diaries from the plus8 classics tour, and they're super interesting!

Last week was pretty busy. I had a handful of assignments, but managed to hand them all in w/ time to spare.

Aside from Friday evening, my weekend was pretty boring. I visted Benny B for his annual bday bash! Actually, it was just a bunch of us hanging out at his parents' house, but it was a great time. I can't wait until next year ;)

Midterms begin this week . . .

BOO the City of Toronto! Boo Mel Lastman and those responsible for closing the deal on the Adams Mine garbage proposal! I don't claim to know all the details, but I'm sure there's a better solution than dumping TO's trash in the backyards of rural communities.

Some people are just dumb. I went to mail a package today, and ahead of me in the line at the post office was a woman wishing to mail what looked like a baby mattress, about 3 x 1.5 feet in size. It was unpackaged aside from the manufacturer's clear plastic wrap, and she needed to get it somewhere in a hurry. I overheard that express shipping would be upwards of $100! Ground would only be about $50. My suggestion: just send cash! Let the party on the other end buy their own mattress!

I also find it highly amusing when people price things like newspapers at .50 cents . . . I'm tempted to throw down a penny and say, "I'll take two."

Lastly for today, I heard a great saying: "waiting until everything is perfect before making a move is like waiting to start a trip until all the traffic lights are green."

I've been skipping lectures by a certain prof. here b/c they're an utter waste of time on account of his inability to deliver the material in a comprehensive manner. Attendance in the class is down, and now I hear he's threatening to penalize those who skip. This is the same guy that wanted to fail people who missed the first lab. My first time learning the material, and his first time teaching, period. What a match made in academia . . .

This morning was one of the hardest yet. A long weekend just doesn't make it easy to get up on that first morning of the week. It's getting a little depressing starting my day before sunrise.

I think I need a horn just for walking through the city.

My hate for the inappropriate use of cell phones continues, and I'd like to build some sort of scrambling device, to disrupt the signals of those around me.

I realize that pretty much all the entries here are little rants and complaints. I'm going to make an effort to increase the happy content . . .

Observation: not only are mini-vans big, ugly, and hard to see around, they're owned by some of the slowest drivers out there.

I'm sick of traffic: data traffic, auto traffic, human traffic. I'm tired of waiting. I've nearly had it.

The interent is not worldwide. It is corporatewide. The internet is not free: one must pay a fee for human speed.

If you are viewing this via a 56k phone line, I urge you not to waste your time. If this site suddenly no longer exists for future visits, it's because I've abandoned mine in exchage for life in real-time.
