WOW! I'm now a proud wearer of the Iron Ring! I'm elated to say I participated in The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer last Wednesday :) Symbollically, you could say that I'm done, but I still have some pesky deadlines to chase . . .

I'm getting pretty restless. I want to make something from all my
contempt for mass material consumption and the dregs of pop culture. I flip through the tv channels, and most of the time it's ALL crap! Manufactured, contrived, crap. But complaining about it on my ill-read webpage doesn't serve to change anything . . . I know there are many out there who share my sentiment -- in fact, I spend my Friday and Saturday nights w/ some of them -- and I now feel motivated to take my complaint beyond the verbal and promote some action. The question now, is how?

Sunday night: can't really sleep, so I've started to read William Golding's 'Lord of the Flies,' one of my favourite books. I've spent a lot of my commuting time this semester reading fiction, and it's been really enjoyable. Sometimes my recreational reading is the highlight of my day . . . I recently finished George Orwell's '1984,' and as great a book it was, I found it depressing. It was so bleak, in terms of quality-of-life, that it has somewhat -- even if only temporarily -- diminished the value I place upon material objects. Some of the most uplifting passages in the book were simple descriptions of pastoral escapes from society.

It's been a fun enough weekend, though by the end of it all I feel a little blahed out. I think that's more a product of anticipating the week of school to come, actually . . . I really shouldn't worry about it though, or anything for that matter, as goes some interesting advice I heard last night . . . Hung out w/ Rich and Janice, and went to the Drum w/ the gang on Friday night.

Looked up a hilarious site yesterday; a couple Brits dressed up in big cell phone suits, attacking mobile users and smashing their phones :)

A pretty decent weekend, though a little boring on the close, as I would have preferred to go out tonight, instead of just watching tv by my lonesome . . . Had an excellent time at the Christie Tavern on Friday night, and a fun time was had by all -- I think -- at a party hosted by friend of Duff, Brad, where I got to see Dan et. al for the first time since the holidays; as well, I met some interesting characters w/ even more interesting contacts . . . more about that later, though ;)

dEb dEparted for her South Pacific field study on Friday, and earlier last week Greg and Kelly set out for internships in California. Both parties will be back this summer . . . and in the meantime, I'm stuck working toward academic deadlines of my own . . .
