Sound-emitting toy. A monkey-in-box toy that, upon shaking, shouted, "Let me out of here! Help! Let me out of here!" Addressed in big letters to LITTLE JOHNNIE. Sound toy was equipped with a new battery. Delivery at doorstep, 6 days.
Reminds me of the time a friend and I tested the "free matter for the blind" postal loop hole here in Canada.
Fast food behemouth reaches new low in Norway w/ McAfrika burger . . . and of course, the spin doctors were able to make it all sound like McD's is one big happy humanitarian outfit after agreeing to let Africa aid groups put up posters and donation boxes in restaurants selling the offending sandwich:
McDonald's said: "All of the involved parties are happy with this solution. We hope this will put a wider focus on the important job that these organisations are doing, and McDonald's in Norway is pleased to be able to support this."
What a bunch of crap!

Did some more riding in Gatineau Park, and went to see the Tom Thomson exhibit at the NGC, which is well worth checking out if you're in the area before 8 September and you dig the Group of 7 (yes, I know TT wasn't officially part of the GO7).
All you DVD hounds out there better hope dem new blue laser DVD players are backwards compatible w/ your ole fashioned red laser jalopies.

British Telecom's patent has been ruled not to include the Internet and hyperlinks in its scope, as previously supposed by BT.
This is pretty interesting: audience members are given a wand w/ a green reflector on one side, and red on the other. By showing one colour or the other, the audience can collectively control actions or games -- Pong, voting, even a flight simulatror -- on a large screen.
Private and Public: a really cool site of candid photos of pedestrians taken from the same spot during each season of the year; well presented and well photographed, too. After viewing the limited selections from what seems like a bigger project (according to the 'about simon' section), I wanted to see more, more!

Looking for at least two in at least near new condition.
Forward price and location please.
Okay, I don't get this. The newsgroup is a great place for deals, I agree, but "near new" bike tires? Bike tires aren't that expensive to begin w/ -- at least they don't have to be, depending on what kind you buy -- so I don't really understand why this person doesn't just go buy a pair of cheapies . . .

To study the effects of rave culture, British scientists injected mice w/ either speed, or salt water, then subjected them to musical selections from Bach and Prodigy:
The mice that received salt fell asleep when the music was played. The drugged mice appeared to jiggle backward and forward . . . Seven of the mice that listened to Prodigy died, as did four of the Bach listeners.

Well, the design for the new Canadian War Museum at LeBreton Flats has finally been unveiled. Looks like there's lots of greenspace, which was my main concern about developing on the formally vacant expanse of land. It's hard to get a good sense from the supplied images of how it will really look . . .

Check this site out while it lasts! A site that's designed to inform you of all the ills of the Segway Scooter, all the problems with 'it', and, here's the punch -- how to sue it! Here's a little sample about Segway's inventor:
Dean Kamen has never been married and has no kids. He is not what many people would call a family man. He has his own private island and helicopter. Children are starving in Africa and Dean Kamen is riding around his private island on "It" like the king of the world.

MeFi discusses Autechre's adventures w/ DVD, which leads to a general discussion questioning "what is art?" I found this comment highly amusing:
I saw a documentary once where they took a painting and had it critiqued by a bunch of different art critics. Some critics touched on hidden meanings, composition statements, intricate patterns and so forth. Others pretty much disregarded it as tripe. The painting was majestically painted by an elephant, holding a brush with it's trunk.
