Started working on a robot kit this weekend. So far so bad.

Halloween costume pics/info here.

Pass the chips, yo. Talk about giving new meaning to the phrase, "all that and a bag of chips."

Too funny; poor guy.

And another thing: is life really so simple that you can break down your role to either one of entertainer or entertainee? It seems most of us roam around looking for entertainment, which sometimes gets really boring; and then there's those who spend their time doing the actual entertaining -- I wonder how fun that really is, you know, behind the scenes and all that. Bah, again!

I hate this weather. It's not wintery enough to go tobogganing or snowshoeing or anything like that, but it's not nice enough to do anything else outside (scooting, etc.). Bah!

Went to the 'shwa for the weekend. Trip was cut short though, due to snow. Hung out w/ Duff, Rich, et al. Fun.

Fun/cool projects at Thift Deluxe (thanks, Lana).

. . . ah, welcome back oh boquet de propane!

Words cannot describe this (Flash).

And this is very fun.

Propane . . . again . . . the pain! Actually, it smells more like sewage (!) at the moment.

Art crimes: "crimes" committed against works of art; an amusing read, particularly this one. And from this one, you see how far some people will go for the sake of art:
Yuan and Jian see themselves as outsiders of the art mainstream and are intent on creating a new way to look at art and indeed it seems they will go to lengths other artists would baulk at in the name of art, from stuffing chillis up their nostrils for a week, to eating each others shit.

Miss Cleo gets busted.

...There's that propane smell, again...

You can even get Big Macs -- and protest thereagainst -- in virtual reality now!

Dancing w/ cats.

Jump the shark: people discussing when specific tv shows started to suck. I could spend hours here . . . and I did ;)

...again w/ the propane!!!

Also today, I was reading this, and the fire alarm went off, and we were evacuated from the building. Yikes! Naturally, after being let back into the building an hour later, I have yet to hear why we were evacuated, and likely never will.

I don't understand how after getting eight hours of sleep, I don't wake up feeling refreshed. Everyday, waking up feels like walking into a wall.

Today it smells like propane (!) in my office. Perhaps someone is eating a smelly salad? I am reminded of my old apartment, where every so often on a Saturday, my bathroom would smell like chic peas.

Nipguards: protection against painful nipple abbrasion.

Crop art: dedicated to the beauty of seeds pasted on a board to make a picture.

Parody of a parody . . . sort of: MAD's version of The Onion.

Either someone's food really stinks around here, or something in my office is burning. Perhaps this isn't the best place to be complaining about this?

My Basey article is featured in the November issue of The Seattle Robotics Society's on-line newsletter, The Encoder.

Get your blue LEDs on: info about the popularity of newly available blue LEDs. There's an interesting table about colours and their corporate symbolism at the bottom of the second page, too.

Man boobytraps house and accidentally falls victim to same.

Old computer photos. Unreal.

When squirrels attack . . . angry grandparents kill them.

A is for Apple. I'm usually skeptical of so-called 'net art', but this is a great Flash essay/collage that explains why there's not much choice when it comes to apples at your grocer (requires audio), among many other things apple-related.

Useful technology for immigrants.

A disturbing picture.

An old article, but still a neat idea.

You know I'm usually not one to talk politics, but I can't help but wonder if what's happening in the states -- Jeb in Florida, and the Republicans running the Senate -- is something to worry about. It feels like a bad conspiracy movie plot is unravelling right before us. That is all.

Terrifica: real-life super hero . . . sort of.

I just ate a hot-mock-chicken-sandwich. I feel gross. You didn't need to know this, but this is my way of letting out a gross burp on ye ole blog.

Stuff that I've seen recently

Last week I checked out Bowling For Columbine. I liked it. It raised more questions than answers.

This weekend I went to the National Gallery of Canada and checked out an interactive table. I wish I had a link, but I don't. The work is an aluminum table in a red room that moves around and follows/taunts/courts someone in the room. Technically, it's amazing, and although the behaviour is neat, I found it more interesting to watch other people interact w/ the table than to interact w/ it myself. However, that may just have been the point. Check it out if you're in the Ottawa area.

Also this weekend, Juan Carlos opened a show at Shanghai. It's about squirrels running out of food and subsequently preying on pigeons. I really dug it. Juan's a nice, enthusiastic guy as well. I invited a bunch of people to meet me there, but few came. Boo. Here's some samples of Juan's work: i, ii.

Rejections

Should I keep a record of my recent rejections?

As you may already know, my prints will no longer be shown at Babylon. I also submitted them to on-line gallery PixelArtNYC, where they also weren't accepted.

That's okay, though. I will keep trying.

Right on. Turner Prize shortlist here. Great quote from one of the jurors for said prize:
[The] question "But is it art?" is stupid. It suggests a decision should be made as to whether something is worth looking at before it is looked at.

Interesting thoughts on conceptual art.

Well, Halloween went off w/ mixed resuts. dEb and I got The New RO to come do a segment on our costumes. They filmed us stumbling around and trick-or-treating. Fun stuff.

We went to Babylon, people dug our costumes, and Raggamuffin was really good -- I'll definately be back there for another Thursday or two. However, Babylon didn't have a costume contest, so it seems we made the wrong choice in the way of Halloween venues. Bummer.

Another bummer in terms of my prints: Babylon's not going to show them anymore, b/c they don't "fit the vibe" they're looking for. That's fine, I understand they have a certain curatorial theme, but it would have been nice to know this before I dropped off all my prints with the impression they were going to be hung up (after having previously brought in some samples and receiving the okay).

We ran into Don from Shanghai on the way back to the car, and that was funny on so many levels. These guys hailed us from their car, wanting to take pictures of us, and as this transpired I recognized Don's voice from behind his rocker/glam/pimp (?) costume. Hilarity ensued since these coincidental run-in's w/ Don are on the rise.

Now it's November. And my throat is sore from yelling over all dem raggae vibes. I'll do my darndest to post some pics up this weekend.
