Weekend

Wow, what a weekend! On Friday, I scooted around the market and people checked me out on my cool scooter. On Saturday, I scooted around town and visited all the cool people I know, and more people oogled me; then on Sunday, I saw this really cool movie, Winged Migration, and got some more stares of envy as I scooted home. Once home, I worked on some of my cool rad art -- that's cool, AND rad art, not like, um, chilly radiators or anything, duh!

And ugh, this week, I am like SOOO busy, it's crazy!

Make sure to leave some comments about how cool I am.

Saw Wax Mannequin in Wakefield last night, he played with Castro Boy -- it was one of the best Wax shows I've seen to date! I presented Wax w/ a special plaque that I made; it's the first piece of fan art I've made. dEb and I also purchased some art from Castro Boy, the first pieces we've bought from our contemporaries.

Some good tunes here.

The current BOC site is neat.

Too funny.

. . . man, this was a l-o-n-g day . . .

Hilariouis quote about art from John Waters (author, filmmaker, artist; featured in SAW's Scatalogue exhibit) in this week's XPress:
I like art that astonishes me, that makes me laugh and tries to do something that nobody else has done in a different way. I like art that at first I say, "Oh come on!" I like art that I can't get out of my mind. I like when you walk home from art galleries and for a couple of hours everything looks like art, you see garbage on the street and it reminds you of art."

Weekend was good. Had the Dragon Boat Race on Saturday (pic). Checked out various festivals on Sunday: Chicken 'n' Ribs; Fringe; etc. Had an amazing ride through Gatineau Park, w/ a stop-over at Meech Lake for some fun in the sun cool down action. Did some painting, too, but that's been s-l-o-w going for the last little while.

So yesterday morning I had the Golden Girls theme in my head. Last night I dreamt that Blanche had to sell her old spooky house, as is, b/c her husband died. Under bed was a detached, moving foot, and under another bed was some spooky old lady. It was creepy.

I also made cupcakes last night for my own personal bakesale to raise money for this weekend's Dragon Boat Race.

. . . and if you had a party, and invited everyone you knew; you would see, the biggest gift would be from me; and the card on the back would say, thank you for being a friend. I have no idea why that's in my head.

So I think I'm coming to understand this term, the starving artist. It seems more about time than money. It's not a matter of being able to afford food, it's moreso a matter of having time to eat it! Ironically, this applies particularly to those w/ a day job (to pay the bills, buy the groceries, etc.). The evenings go quick, and a lot of time can be spent cooking, eating, and cleaning before getting down to work, and that's precious time when you're chasing a deadline. It's usually far more productive to eat chocolate, popcorn, bagels, ice cream, or any combination thereof in order to make the most of the night as far as painting is concerned -- that's been my secret, anyway.

Gee, I really feel succinct today.

Don't delete the teddy bear.

Art in the Park was great! Lots of great work! Met a handful of like-minded artists, and sold five pieces from my Lineage series. dEb sold some ducky pieces.

Not the mama

Had a bit of a disaster in the studio last night. When paintings go bad, it's no fun. At least this made me laugh this morning.

Recent events see me w/ a window office. Workin' w/ the sun by my side is nice. I bought some headphones, so work's all about groovin', readin', and writin' thos TPS reports. I could get used to this . . . actually, I already am. Exciting, huh? If you're reading this from the comforts of a cubicle, please share w/ me how you make your day more interesting, and perhaps where you find some good/funny/interesting reads on-line. You can use the comment link below, so share!

Art in the Park

Mark your calendars for this Saturday (7 June) if you're in the Ottawa area: it's Art in the Park at Central Park in the Glebe (Bank and Clemow) from 10am to 5pm (rain date Sunday, 8 June).

I encourage you to drop by and check out all the displays -- paintings, photographs, clothing, etc. -- including work by myself and Deb.
