Oh my.

I've started an on-line gallery at Terminus1525. Enjoy!

Hilarious:
The bobblehead fits with Kerouac because he was such a rhythmic guy. He loved music. He loved the rhythmic speech of good writing.

Click on the guy w/ the orange shirt, and wait for him . . .

Ha ha, stupid hipsters!

Speaking of hip, I painted w/ Jaun last night, and it was great! He'd already started the canvas last week, and was busy elsewhere, so I had about an hour to start doing the solo collage thing. When Juan arrived, we started working a bit more off each other, and the results were pretty neat; sort of like a big, crazy, dripping doodle. We even got an offer on it! Forgot the camera, but will have some pics in to share by next week.

Went to the 'shwa for the weekend. Pretty quiet, did some painting. Had lots of coffee, donuts, and pizza.

Last week I ate lots of Cap'n Crunch; now I'm sick of it. I worked a lot, too, so I'm sick of that today as well.

Even better (well, a bit, anyway)

Wow.

So I set up a painting gig w/ Juan Carlos. Juan paints live every Wednesday night at Zibibbo's upstairs lounge, the Camarillo Brillo (495 Somerset West), and I'll be joining him this upcoming Wednesday, 30 July. I have no idea what to expect, or what we'll accomplish, but it should be interesting . . . and fun, of course!

Had a games night last night. Played some pente, Perfection, backgammon, and Trivial Pursuit. Ate lots of junk food, too.

More longboarding last night: fun! Getting the hang of carving and pumping/slalom.

And they say there's no good Canadian films: Star Wars Kid goes crazy, parents sue.

Comments are back up, though things might load slower around here for the time being :(

Fun weekend. dEb lives near the water resevoir, which is one of, if not the, highest point(s) in Ottawa; so all roads, at one grade or another, are downhill from there . . . so longboarding we went. Starting to feel more comfy on the board by our third time out. Did some mountain biking in Kanata Lakes, too. Not quite the rush as experienced downhilling in the Gats, but a much more technical -- and muddy! -- ride. Hit Palmer's for a BBQ after our ride. Checked the Lebanese Fun Festival, but it wasn't that fun. Lately I've been bored (ha!) w/ my activities if they don't involve zoomin' down a hill on a wheeled instrument :(

Art

I'm participating in a group show in TO, at SpeedScoot, a downtown scooter shop. I'm displaying some of my prints, and the show runs until mid-August; so if you find yourself downtown in the tee dot, make sure to drop by. There's a map and hour on the SpeedScoot site, and I have some pics here.

He'll be gone for three days.

Watching videos like this (QT) yesterday really had me itching to get out on the longboard, so last night, after din din, we headed out on the pathway. Naturally, I got a little crampy, jumping on the board so soon after eating. So we stopped at DQ on the Quebec side. Mmmm. We were going against the wind most of the night, but still managed to hit a few hills -- nothing too big as I'm still pretty low on the learning curve when it comes to carving; and sliding to a stop, well, that'll be an ambitious undertaking. Being higher off the ground, compared to a scooter or regular skateboard, you get quite a workout just pushing, and I can definately feel it in my right calf today . . .

Lana linked this article about Ottawa's hotspots and added some highlights of her own. I'd also suggest:

  • Cam Kong for lunch/dinner (Somerset, near Booth)

  • Shanghai for lunch/dinner ,and tunes/drinks on Thursday nights (Somerset, near Bronson)

  • Zibibbo for good food downstairs, and lounging upstairs (Somerset, near the Beer Store)

  • Lorenzo's for gr8 pizza (Richmond W)

  • Andy's for breakfast and diner food (Richmond in Westboro)

  • gbecker Gallery for funky art (Bank & Glebe)

  • Artguise for great art openings (Bank, S of 417)

  • etc. ;)

Comments seem to be pretty wonky lately. There's nothing on the page to explain it. We'll have to be patient.

    Weekend

    Here's the weekend report . . .

Thai food: Mmmmm. Ate 'til the tummy hurt.

Epsilonlab: groovy beats, and visuals from far away lands (lots of good tunes in the 'live experiments' section of the website, too!).

Art: It's finally up at gBecker Gallery (Bank & Glebe, across from the KFC)! Company Time paintings and a new triptych are on display, as are a selection of dEb's duckie pieces.

Ottawa Pride Parade and celebrations on Bank St.: half the parade got re-routed around the block, right before our prime spot on the curb. I guess it only made sense that the Pride parade wouldn't be straight ;)

Longboards: very fun, and very cool to finally have a sk8er girlfriend.

    Link(s)

Audiopad: amazing tablet-based musical interface. If this is any indication where live performance of music is going, things are gonna get mighty interesting. I was just lamenting about how ubiquitous laptops are becoming in live electronic performance, but this illustrates, imo, that interface is the key (duh!).

Mario Battle No. 1: Super Mario w/o all the enemies and prizes. Just stroll the land and eventually run out of time and die. Much more like real life, if you ask me!

Hunting for Bambi: shooting naked women in the desert w/ paintball guns.
For the individual who's used to saying I can't go out with the boys tonight ...my wife doesn't want me to, and yes dear, no dear, the wimp of America, it's a chance for him to come out and vent his aggression and really take charge and have some fun.
You can even buy the video. What gets me about this isn't that there's women agreeing to do this for money, but that there's guys willing to spend $5000+ to shoot them. I think I'm gonna open a place that hires women w/ long hair to go hide in caves, then have men pay to get dressed up in a furskin and go get them w/ the aid of a big wooden club.

Mobile Phone Throwing Competiton: sign me up!

They say, "you can do it!" But lately, I don't think you can.

An oldie but goodie (somehow this got in my head today; Quicktime link).

    15:05 |

B: It looks like another hot summer day out there . . .
A: Yeah, but at least it's not humid.
B: Not yet, anyway, but it will be.
A: Yeah, I'm sure it will turn humid soon enough.
    B: Then it'll just get cold again . . .
    A: Man, weather sucks.

    Weekend

Well, this weekend wasn't as dope as the last. Seems the city was still recovering from Canada Day, so it was pretty quiet. Did manage to see Lederhosen Lucil, though, great stuff!

I always thought Law & Order was a boring show -- now I know why.

    Canada Day

So Canada Day rocked, sort of. On Canada Day Eve, dEb and I went to Linda's BBQ. We showed up on our dope lowriders, firing cap guns. It was such a spectacle. Everyone thought -- and knew -- we were the coolest people there.

However, I think someone slipped something in my hotdog, b/c I didn't feel too good the next day. I had some 'digestive problems' and a mean headache. However, I was determined to have a fun day, so we headed out on our dope lowriders again, and cruised through the downtown crowds, gettin' all the looks b/c we looked so dope on our wicked bikes.

Later on, we checked out the fireworks. Not bad. A couple lulls, but some interested pyrotekniks nonetheless!

Saw one of these on the canal the other day, and it looked pretty fun.

    Duuuuummmmmmb?

Men who look like Kenny Rogers.
