I had to drive downtown before the meeting to pick someone up, and again this morning to avoid the rain. Having done this, I really don't like 'car culture:' all these coolios in their dope cars (which are really just suped up Grand Ams and SUVs) driving around commuter polluter stylz (one person per car), vying for underground parking, b/c hey, you wouldn't want your car to get wet in the rain, now would you!?

Weekend past was pretty good. Went to an Artguise opening on Friday; such openings are usually quite fun, and Andy's (Andrew Farrel, from The Manx) was no different, although he had a huge turnout! Managing a bar seems to help out quite a bit w/ patron turnout at one's art opening . . . Regardless, I liked the work for it's colour, texture, and finish: abstract and barren landscapes composed of soft and bulbous shapes, painted on large wooden panels, and heavily varnished for a look akin to fired porcelin. I'd say at least three quarters of the show was spoken for by the end of the night. Allan Neil and Julie Delaney (from CBC) were there, so dEb and I chatted the friendly duo up.
On Saturday we went for an afternoon bike ride in Bells Corners, eventually ending up in a strange clearing whose moss- and rock-covered floor made us feel as though we were visiting another planet! On Saturday evening, our painting event at Shangai went well, despite a less than stellar turnout. Our scheduled dj couldn't make it due to booking conflicts, so I brought my gear in and spun for a while, along w/ Don. Fun stuff! Should have some pics in the near future.
Sunday was quiet, just scootin' and longboarding. Took another peak at Claude Marquis' Nature Boy exhibit.
Also saw Lederhosen Lucil, which is always a good time!

You should go to cbcr3.ca, and navigate your way to the archives, then go to issue 2.01 (Sept. 5-11) and click on the Bert story. It is very sad :( There's also a moving piece called Self Storage in issue 1.35 (Aug. 22 to Sept. 4), about people abandonning their stuff in rental storage units.

Sad news to hear the passing of John Ritter and Johnny Cash. I don't have any specifically fond memories of the former or Three's Company, but the Ripper was certainly a nice, cheerful guy. As for the man in black, I do have fond memories of dancin' in the ring while over at the also deceased Different Drum; I also thought that one day I'd get to see JC in the flesh. For now, this video will half to suffice.

As usual, I was rather inspired by the live painting. However, last night I was too tired by the time I got home to do any work -- last time I began work on some pieces after returning home from Zibeeb's, continuing in the morning, and finishing them up before the weekend where I went on to sell one on the Saturday.
Akin to our walk home two weeks ago, Matt and I stopped at Pizza Pizza for a post-party snack. We didn't get to nab another bag of brownies, but we did scam our way into some free pizza by complaining that our first order tasted like cardboard halfway through eating it.
Now I'm at work, and it's only Thursday; I'm tired, and it's a beautiful day outside. Ahhh . . .

Man, do I ever feel couped up today . . .
Also, I'm REALLY getting sick of art sites that don't have pictures . . . what gives!? It's visual art!!!

We also saw Freddy vs. Jason, and it was hilarious! The plots of these two slasher franchaises were well integrated!

Last night I dreamt about sliding on my longboard, an exiled member of the Ottawa Robotics Club working on a secret project somewhere, and that no one could read my handwriting.

So all this talk of ramen and university reminds me of when I first learned of MSG. I was innocently enjoying some ramen in third year, with which was always accompanied by a Coke, since the Coke always tasteed amazing alongside the ramen. I was explaining this to my friend, Dave, and that's when he let the cat out of the bag about MSG and it's flavourful purpose. Ugh. It was just like the time my older brother ruined Polkaroo for me before I was old enough to figure it out :(
I've updated my paintings page w/ new stuff!

Louvens toured into town the other week, as a videographer w/ Terminus1525's Arraires du Train gallery -- a cross-Canada tour of local arts scenes -- and he did a little piece w/ dEb and I.
dEb and I participated in Dovercourt's Art in the Park event this weekend, which was a little slow, but still a nice day to be outside.
Spent the remainder of the weekend at Matt's cabin, w/ the likes of Palmer and crew :)
Also saw AA Bronson and some of General Idea's films at the SAW Gallery's biennial film event.
