Homage: "Something done or given in acknowledgment or consideration of the worth of another."
Flaven (in honor of Dan Flavin)
A group show in 2008 at Cube Gallery (Ottawa, CA) which asked 60 artists to create an homage to an important influence on their art.
My entry to this group show was a wall-mounted rendition of Dan Flavin's "untitled (in honor of Harold Joachim)" installation.
(detail view)
Originally a static piece, in 2009 it was updated with a microprocessor and electric relays to allow indvidual sequencing of the colour groups to animate and exaggerate the effect of direct vs. reflected light and colour.
Although not featured in the above vidoe, this piece also operates at much slower speeds for ambient lighting effects. Sensors can also be added for interactivity.
Powered by a standard AC/DC adapter, similar sculptures suitable for bars, clubs, lounges, lobbies, etc., are available by commission.
Drop me a line to discuss custom projects.
